Press Release
January 2007 : Centenary Celebration And A New Name For Wingfield Slater
Wingfield Slater, one of Sheffield’s leading accountancy practices, is celebrating 100 years’ business in the city … and is marking its centenary with a change of name. It is looking forward to its second successful century under the name of UHY Wingfield Slater.
The name change is slight but it is a significant development for the practice, which started business in 1907 at Norfolk Row in Sheffield. It has become a member of the UHY Hacker Young network, one of the top 20 groups of chartered accountants in the UK.
Said UHY Wingfield Slater partner John Wingfield: “It’s a great honour for us to have been selected to represent UHY in South Yorkshire and a testimony to our long-standing commitment to quality and client service.
“As our clients are increasingly involved in ventures throughout the UK and overseas, we feel that this is the right time to face the growth of globalisation by joining an international organisation.
“After 100 years of providing accountancy and business advisory services in Sheffield, we want to continue our journey into our second century by ensuring we are ideally placed to meet the challenges ahead.”
Through UHY Hacker Young, the practice is joining UHY International, a global association of accounting and consulting firms, represented by offices in 164 cities in 53 countries around the world.
UHY Wingfield Slater has been talking to all its clients in Sheffield and South Yorkshire to reassure them that the business relationship with them has not changed at all.
“UHY Wingfield Slater will still be run by our four existing partners, with the same staff, from the same premises in the Devonshire Quarter in the city, with the same fee structure,” said Mr Wingfield. “It ‘s important to realise we remain an independent Sheffield firm, but now we are in the enviable position of being able to offer our clients the additional resources that membership of UHY Hacker Young now brings,”
UHY Wingfield Slater will be marking its 100th birthday with a number of events throughout its centenary year, including fostering links with other 100 year old plus business organisations in the city.
